Ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti has done all it can to get hold on GHMC area for the upcoming corporation election. The GHMC area which has high presence of settlers will pose a great challenge to the party as the corporation elections in the first quarter of 2015. However analysts still say that the party’s position is far from being comfortable for the elections.
Of 24 assembly segments in Greater Hyderabad, TRS has representation only in three assembly constituencies — Secunderabad, Malkajgiri and Patancheru. TRS’ ally MIM has strong hold on 7 Assembly segments which means the party do not have any strong leadership or cadre in the remaining constituencies. TRS managed to bring in two TDP MLAs T Srinivas Yadav (Sanathnagar) and T Krishna Reddy (Maheshwaram) in to the party but it is not sure if they can bring settlers votes to the party and make an impact.
TRS previous track record in Corporation elections is not promising. The party has two members in Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) council in 2002 and later even did not contest in 2009 elections. The ruling party is yet to have any Greater Hyderabad committee now and city minister T Padma Rao is taking care of party affairs in the city.
